Luton Town manager Rob Edwards has spoken out about his side’s need to improve, despite elements that were positive, against Brighton.

Speaking to Sky Sports before the Friday night football, against Chelsea, Edwards has discussed his team and where they are going moving forward.

Following an opening day defeat, the Hatters have had a week off, due to stadium developments causing their first home game postponed.

Edwards was proud of his players against Brighton, but wasn’t happy with certain elements that could have been better.

What has Rob Edwards said?

He has reiterated his stance on the game at the AMEX many times since and knows what must be done.

Discussing that point he said: “There was a lot of good things, but there we things we can improve on, quickly, and those were basics. A lot of that was closing gaps, doing the work and running.

Edwards understands that the level has changed and his side will be punished if they play in the same way again.

Brighton are a top side who will figure you out: “At this level and against that level of opposition, they see a gap, take the space and play the pass.

“We can take positives that we were in the game until the 84th, 85th minute, we’ve gifted them the third goal and then we’re chasing it.”

It wasn’t all doom and gloom for the manager, making light of it all saying: “We don’t want to gifting anything like we did in that game.

“It’s quite obvious, lets not pass it to them in our own box,” he laughed.

Looking forward to the Chelsea game, Edwards was full of praise for his counterpart Mauricio Pochettino and his squad.

“We know he’s a top manager and has been for a long, long time.

“They’ve bought in a lot of top players, they’re a new team and they’re building as well, so I’m expecting a tough challenge but they might not be at their best right now.”

At their best or not, a trip to Stamford Bridge is never easy.

Two tough tests on the road in as many games is hard on a newly promoted side.

Edwards knows how difficult these games are: “Like Brighton was last week, it’s as difficult a test as you can get, away from home in the Premier League, but we are really looking forward to it.”

Undoubtably going to be a test for Luton, but with the Chelsea squad in it’s infancy, under Pochettino, it provides Edwards’ men the potential to upset the odds.
