Luton Town manager Rob Edwards has confirmed that Ross Barkley is available to make his debut for the club against former side Chelsea.

Barkley joined the Hatters this summer after he was released by French side OGC Nice at the end of the season.

He signed for Chelsea in a £15 million deal from Everton in January 2018.

Despite not having the best time of it in West London, he made managed to make100 appearances for the Blues.

Back in the Premier League, does Barkley have a point to prove?

What has Rob Edwards said about Ross Barkley?

The manager has been speaking ahead of his side’s second Premier League game.

Edwards did confirm that Barkley can play at Stamford Bridge: “He could indeed [play], he’s been training with us now for a couple of weeks, I’ve been delighted with him, so he’s certainly in the mix.”

The former Everton man has spent a year away from the Premier League and coming back fans may be wanting to see the player that Chelsea paid for.

Edwards doesn’t believe that this is the case: “He’s got nothing to prove, certainly to me or to anyone.

“I just know he’s hungry and he wants to play football.”

The Luton boss believes there is a player there and he provides plenty of experience.

He proved that point saying: “He knows more than me about football and how to play, I can hopefully give him a good environment and we can help him continue to get better, but I just know that he can really, really help us.”

The doubters that surround Town in the Premier League are similar to those around Barkley.

This is a factor that is not lost on the manager: “he’s got the bit between his teeth and wants to show people as well, so I think he’ll make a really big impact for us this season, I’m really excited to see him about on the pitch for us.”

It is clear for all to see that Edwards is happy with Barkley and hopefully he can rediscover his top form.
