Mads Andersen and Chiedozie Ogbene were both positive looking forward, despite a 2-1 loss to West Ham United.

It was Luton’s first Premier League game at Kenilworth Road. Fans were hopeful of securing their first win of the season.

The home side started on the front foot, but it was the Hammers who took the lead through Jarod Bowen.

The Hatters continued to have chances, despite a lack of possession, but couldn’t find that allusive goal.

Kurt Zouma doubled the visitors’ advantage late into the day to all but secure three points.

Andersen scored his first goal since signing from Barnsley this summer.

It was too little too late for Rob Edwards’ side.

Ogbene came on for Alfie Doughty and made a positive impact on proceedings.

What have Mads Andersen and Chiedozie Ogbene said?

The Danish defender got his first goal for the club in the defeat, but a consolation isn’t what he wanted.

“Yes of course I’m pleased, if it was 1-0 and we win the game. Hopefully there’s more goals to come.”

As a defender, scoring goals isn’t his remit.

On that point, there is one thing that the Dane wanted more: ” I love defending so much I would rather have a clean sheet and that’s just the truth.”

Ogbene felt that the Hatters need to make more chances if they are going to win games.

Discussing the challenge ahead, he said: “We’re aware that we’re not playing teams in the Championship, we’re playing against really top teams.

“West Ham have just won a European competition.”

On his new teammate, he was happy to see him score: “We can create chances from open play and I think it was a good goal taken by Mads.”

Luton fans felt that their side should have had a chance from 12 yards

James Ward-Prowse appeared to handle the ball in the area, but nothing was given.

On the potential spot kick, Andersen said: “I haven’t seen it back, I’ve heard it’s a handball, but it’s out of my control.

“We cannot rely on those small VAR, if we get a VAR penalty of something, yes we’ll take it, but it is what it is.”

The Irish winger shared this sentiment: “I don’t think there was any discussions about penalties, we were just looking at what chances we had and the effort we put in.”

There is a top mindset being instilled by Edwards, hopefully it turns into positive results.
