Luton Town manager, Rob Edwards, has confirmed that a move for Isaac Hayden has fallen through as a deal couldn’t be agreed.

The 28-year old had been strongly linked to a move to the Hatters, joining from Newcastle United.

A loan move to Kenilworth Road appeared to be all but completed, but it has seemingly come to a halt with Hayden set to stay in the North East.

The English midfielder came through the Arsenal academy and joined the Magpies in 2016 for a rumoured £2.5 million.

Eddie Howe had confirmed that he was allowed to leave the club but it appears Luton won’t be his destination.

What has Rob Edwards said about Isaac Hayden?

The Hatters boss wasn’t holding back, talking about the deal following his side’s Carabao Cup win against Gillingham.

When asked about any transfer, Edwards said: “We couldn’t quite agree a deal unfortunately.”

The rumours around the signing were very public and was clearly true.

On that point he said: “He’s someone we had a look at, clearly, there was interest.”

Hayden spent last season on loan at Norwich City making 12 appearances.

His Premier League experience at St James Park could have proved invaluable.

Edwards is clearly a fan: “He’s a good player but unfortunately we couldn’t quite agree a deal.”

A midfield option is obviously still being considered by Luton as they look to fill out their squad for the season.

With just days remaining in the window transfers have to be done quickly.

Edwards knew this was the case: “We can have a look and see what else we can do in the next couple of days.”

The Hatters have been heavily linked with defenders and midfielders all window and hopefully they can get who they need in.
