Luton are on the lookout for cover in their goalkeeper department ahead of their maiden Premier League campaign, but their bids for Blackburn Rovers’ Thomas Kaminski are being knocked back.
Alan Nixon stated that the Hatters’ initial bid for the Belgian was rejected, with their second offer also deemed too low.
The Premier League outfit are believed to have offered a package under £1m. Despite extras in the improved offer, Blackburn’s valuation of the 30-year-old is considerably more than what Luton are attempting to pay.
Hatters boss Rob Edwards could see Kaminski competing for game time with the current set of first team goalkeepers, but that in itself is subject to change with rumours of former Chelsea goalkeeper Asmir Begovic possibly signing.
According to Nixon, Luton are in the market for two goalie additions. One more senior and one for competition.
Kaminski has made 118 appearances for Rovers since joining from Gent in 2020, keeping 33 clean sheets in that time. Remarkably, he has also been booked on 11 occasions for the Championship outfit and 26 times in total over the span of his career; weirdly impressive for a goalkeeper.
Prior to his time in England, he was a serial winner in both Belgium and Denmark and has featured on several occasions in the Europa League. Kaminski has two Belgium Pro League titles, three Belgian Super Cups, a Superliga title and a Danish Cup to his name.
As it stands, it looks as though the Hatters will have to look elsewhere for cover, however.
If not Kaminski, who else?
The current trio of goalkeepers that Edwards possesses are James Shea, Jack Walton, and Matt Macey. None of which have played in the Premier League before.
It is clear that there is a certain pedigree of goalkeeper that Luton are trying to attract, which may lead to a major shake-up of the Hatters’ present goalie union, but there is still plenty of time left of the transfer window for things to change.
