Luke Freeman has been released by Luton Town after a mutual agreement was reached between the player and club.

The club have put out a statement on their website announcing this fact.

The midfielder signed for the Hatters last summer under Nathan Jones.

Prior to his move to Kenilworth Road he had played for Premier League side Sheffield United, where he only made 16 appearances.

The two years following his move to the Blades, he spent on loan in the Championship with Nottingham Forest and Millwall.

He only played 24 games over those two spells and the following season he joined Luton.

26 appearances in his first and only season, he scored two goals.

His goals against Cardiff City and QPR helped to contribute to the Hatters’ campaign as they gained promotion to the Premier League.

The club have said: “We would like to thank Luke for his efforts last season and wish him all the best for his future career.”

A mutual agreement to end his contract appears to be the best case scenario for both sides. A classy thing for the club to say and do to help the player find a new home.

It doesn’t appear that Freeman has a move lined up but isn’t going to be at Luton for the coming season.

With the signings of Tanith Chong and Ross Barkley the level of quality signed by Rob Edwards has gone up.

As a result there needs to be casualties within the squad who won’t be able to play in the Premier League.

Freeman has become one of those to be let go by the club due to the influx of midfield talent.
