Luton Town’s Cauley Woodrow has admitted that he had doubts over Alfie Doughty’s long range effort, but was proven wrong.
The Hatters made it through to the third round of the EFL Cup following a 3-2 win over Gillingham.
The first match of the season at the newly refurbished, Kenilworth Road.
Jacob Brown grabbed his first goal for Town just two minutes in. Luke Berry won a header which fell for Brown who smashed it in.
What came next was extraordinary.
A free kick 30+ yards out, Doughty plays a one-two with Berry. Number 45, Doughty curls a powerful effort into the top corner.

Unbelievable goal to double the Hatters’ advantage.
The Gills got one back before a Woodrow half volley found the back of the net to make it three.
It was 3-2 just two minutes before the end but it is Luton in the hat for the next round.
What has Cauley Woodrow said about Alfie Doughty?
This type of goal is clearly been in the midfielders mind in training with Woodrow not being so surprised by the effort.
Discussing this point he said: “Alf’s done that, a little touch to someone and shot before.
“It’s something we’ve seen and to be honest when he stepped up I was thinking ‘Alfie, it’s a bit far out, I’m not sure you’re going to score.'”
Despite what he thought, he wrapped it into the top corner giving the keeper no chance.
But when the effort came off everyone knew it was in: “When it left his foot it flew into the top corner, an unbelievable finish.”
The togetherness in this Luton side has always been paramount to the success at the club.
Woodrow showed his joy for his teammate saying: “For Alfie, it’s good for him to get some minutes and to get a goal.
“He’s another player we’re really happy for.”
Doughty himself was clearly happy with the goal, with Woodrow saying: “I saw him in the players room and he’s come in with a little smug face on so I think he’s buzzing, but really happy for him.”
Hopefully this win will see the Hatters push on in the Premier League and get that first win on the board.
