Carlos Mendes Gomes has opened up about his move to Bolton Wanderers following a failed spell with Luton Town.

Mendes Gomez joined the Hatters in 2021 in a deal rumoured to be £500,000 and only ever made nine appearances.

The Spaniard signed from Morecombe following the Shrimps’ promotion to League One.

He scored 16 and assisted five as he contributed heavily to their first ever promotion to the third division of English football.

This tempted Luton into making a move for the winger but it didn’t quite work out for him.

He spent last season out on loan at Fleetwood Town where he had another positive season in League One.

Mendes Gomes scored 10 and assisted four as the Fishermen finished in 13th.

This season the winger has joined promotion contenders Bolton Wanderers on a permanent deal.

What has Carlos Mendes Gomes said?

While discussing his move he seemed very happy to make a permanent move away.

On the move, he said: “It is a fresh start for me, and I have loved it since minute one.

“It has been like a family here and I am also close to my own family too, so that makes everything easier.”

Bolton failed to make the play off final at Wembley last season following a 2-1 aggregate loss to Barnsley, after finishing fifth.

When discussing why he chose the club, he said: “Everyone knows Bolton Wanderers are a big club, and everyone knows we want to play at a higher level.

“Hopefully we can achieve our objective at the end of the season.”

Despite it not working out at Luton, he may have been a victim of circumstance as they were promoted with him out on loan.

At the time, £500,000 was a lot for the Hatters, but following promotion they could afford to offload players at that price.
