Luton Town loanee, Joe Taylor, has scored four goals in his first six Colchester United games and manager, Ben Garner is impressed with him.

The forward signed from Peterborough United in 2023 and in six appearances for the Hatters, he is yet to score.

Taylor nearly had his crowning moment when he scored at Wembley against Coventry City, in the Championship Play Off final.

Despite it being ruled out for handball, it must have been a huge moment in the 20-year old’s career.

This season, he has started on fire scoring in almost every other game for United.

Rob Edwards felt that he needed some first team football in order to realise his potential.

What has Ben Garner said about Joe Taylor?

When discussing his new man, Garner said: “He’s shown what he’s capable of doing for us and we just need to keep working with him and be patient.

“I think he’s a very strong signing who will do well for us but it’s our job to educate him and develop him at the same time.”

There have been issues with his recklessness, sometimes getting ahead of himself and risking yellow and red cards.

On that, Garner said: “We don’t want to take away from Joe’s passion and love of the game.

“In the last two games, it’s got to the point where there’s been a danger of a red card and it’s meant that he’s had to be taken off, for his own benefit.”

That issue could be detrimental to his season and something he needs to improve on.

Garner is happy with Taylor overall: “He’s shown what he’s capable of doing for us and we just need to keep working with him and be patient.”

Taylor has had a great start and Colchester can be happy with their new man.
