Chiedozie Ogbene has been discussing his move to Luton Town while on international duty with the Republic of Ireland.

Ogbene signed for Luton this summer after a four year spell at Rotherham United.

Last season he scored eight and assisted four and as a result the Hatters went in for the Irishman.

In his four year spell with the Millers, he made 136 appearances and scored 14 and assisted 22 times across League One and the Championship.

He joined from Brentford in 2019 where he didn’t quite find a regular role.

Signed from Limerick where he had scored eight in 32.

Now at aged 26-years old he finds himself in the Premier League with the newly promoted Luton.

What has Chiedozie Ogbene said?

The Irish midfielder was aware of interest in his signature as he was available on a free transfer.

On that point he said: “I had some options in the Championship and one Premier League team watching me from a distance.

“I’ll be honest with you, I did not have any ideas of Luton Town coming in for me.”

Once the Hatters knew which league their fate lay in, they made their move: “After Luton Town got promoted they gave me a phone call and said they would like to have me on board as my attributes.”

“Skill is something they thrive on, my upbringing and the way I have developed my career is the personnel they want at the club.”

The opportunity to play in the Premier League is something that all players want to do.

“It was a quick decision from me because to get the opportunity to play in the Premier League, I was never going to say no.”

The former Rotherham man hasn’t started a game yet, but it hasn’t put him off.

He will wait for his opportunity: “I know the levels, it’s a step up and I will bide my time, I have to be ready when I get my time to make sure I take the opportunity.”

With the international break now, some good form for his country could temp Rob Edwards into giving him a start.
