Luton Town have identified the defence as a must improve area early in the season, due to their leaky record so far.

Rob Edwards’ side have conceded seven goals in just two Premier League games played.

These obvious struggles has led the Hatters to look into options which could help them to improve defensively.

The arrival of Newcastle’s Isaac Hayden is now believed to have fallen through which means Luton have had to turn their attentions elsewhere.

Specifically Manchester United duo Teden Mengi and Axel Tuanzebe who are both available to sign for the Hatters.

Luton target double swoop

With only just over 48 hours remaining in the window, Luton have chosen what could be an easy to attain signing as their defensive recruit.

According to The Telegraph, Manchester United’s 21-year-old defender, Mengi, has found himself the subject of interest from the Town.

He is said to be on the radar of Edwards and Luton who see him as a good option with high potential.

Mengi is said to be open to a move with United keen to let him leave to get some senior football following previous loan moves to Derby and Birmingham.

Continuing in the report, it is also mentioned that Tuanzebe, who departed Old Trafford this summer after his contract expired is also linked.

It is suggested that he is currently training at Luton while he looks for a new club, but being a centre-back, he could find himself on the agenda for Edwards sooner or later.

Given his status as a free-agent he could also be signed following the close of the window.
