West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper, Alex Palmer, has spoken out about a move to Luton Town, explaining why a move never materialised.

Following promotion, and the loss of Ethan Horvarth back to Nottingham Forest, a goalkeeper was a top priority for Rob Edwards.

There was reports that Palmer had been an option for Town, with a deal approaching completion.

The 27-year-old has fought for the number one role at West Brom, with David Button also at the club.

This season, under Carlos Corberan, he has made the role his own.

As a player who has been at the Baggies for 13 years this is a huge achievement and not something he wanted to relinquish.

He has spoken out about his situation with the Express and Star.

What has Alex Palmer said?

It is clear the longevity of his time at Albion has had its effect: “Being so long here and to achieve being number one now, it’s something that was too soon to leave.”

Even the biggest Luton fan couldn’t begrudge him that, it is understandable why he would want to stay.

His dream is to play in the Premier League, just not with Luton right now.

Talking about his aspirations he said: “I want to achieve promotion and get us back to the Premier League, that’s my ultimate dream, to achieve that with West Brom.

“Every player wants to play in the Premier League, but for me it just wasn’t right.”

He is in the right frame of mind and just by the way he speaks, he would have been a great signing.

Palmer was happy to have even have a bid come in however saying: “It’s nice to be recognised, but it’s down to a lot of people behind the scenes, especially those I came up with.”

He has strong morals and is an example of the kind of player Luton and Edwards wants.

With Thomas Kaminski and Tim Krul coming in, the goalkeeper situation has been resolved to a good degree.
