Premier League side ‘shocked’ that Hatters did not re-sign loanee

Nottingham Forest were surprised that Luton Town didn’t sign Ethan Horvath this summer despite an option to buy in his contract.

Horvath made 51 appearances for the Hatters in a season long loan spell as they won the play offs and earned promotion.

There are reports from The Athletic that there was a buy clause in the Americans contract, but it was never activated.

Last season he kept 20 clean sheets in a dream season for all Town fans.

With Forest signing two goalkeepers his season, in Odysseas Vlachodimos and Matt Turner, it appears the 28-year old will be third choice.

The keeper signed for Forest from Genk in 2021 and has only made eleven appearances for the Reds.

Two play off wins in two years for him hasn’t tempted any interest in his signature.

Should Luton Town have signed Ethan Horvath?

As a keeper he is very adept at reflex saves and getting his big frame across the goal quickly.

His long passing is also accurate when compared to other options on the market, not that this tempted Luton in.

The Hatters opted to sign Thomas Kaminski and Tim Krul over Horvath this summer.

The Belgian is another keeper that offers great reflexes and is comfortable with the ball at his feet.

From Blackburn Rovers, he cost less than £3 million, representing great value.

Krul is a man who will offer just as much off the pitch as he will of it.

A raft of experience from international, Premier League and Championship football will be invaluable for Rob Edwards’ side.

It isn’t clear how much he cost but it is likely to be a minimal fee.

Two goal keepers signed for under £4 million is great business from the club.

You would imagine that Horvath would have been a player who would cost upwards of £5 million, which could be why other options were explored.

It is unfortunate for Horvath to find himself as as a third choice now despite a great season.
